Circumvented by Karen Margolis
I was recently introduced to the work of New York-based artist Karen Margolis. Her obsession with circles is realized through meticulously crafted works that utilize and focus on both negative and positive space. In her artist’s statement, Margolis explaines, “My art making involves two distinctly opposing procedures: burning holes in material and constructing discrete components into compositions. Within these margins I explore damage and mending through intimate expressions of how we are touched by circumstances of life.” The result is a dizzying beauty that some might argue is the best kind.
