We are so pleased to be able to introduce our second Lin Morris Limited edition product - the Brighton necklace - designed exclusively for us by the very talented London-based accessory designer, Eleanor Bolton. You can find out a little more about Eleanor in our previous profile story here.

For this project, Eleanor was inspired by the colours and architecture found by the seafront in her home city of Brighton in the UK. As you probably know by now, we love to know the story behind the design, so below is Eleanor’s own documentation of the making of the Brighton necklace, from concept to final product.

Brighton seafront by Eleanor Bolton

Lin Morris set a brief for me to design something inspired by my hometown so I started researching the things that remind me of Brighton, which is where I grew up. When I think of Brighton I think of the sea and the colours of the seafront, which is why I chose to use a greeny-blue Rowan yarn, which is actually called Pier - a total coincidence!

The braid is sourced directly from the manufacturers in Manchester. It’s the sort that I use in all of my jewelry and rope has a lot of nautical connotations, so it links in nicely.

Initial experiments using silver chain and woven yarn

I was also looking at the metal fences and railings around the seafront and the pier, and you can see how I’ve mirrored the forms with the metal rings. The rings are silver plated brass sewn together with Rowan yarn.

The fastening and catch are all sterling silver, which is important because when you wear a necklace, that’s the part that sits against your skin.

A limited edition of ten Brighton necklaces are available to buy exclusively in our shop for $235.
