Kilt Light cabinet by Claesson Koivisto Rune

Sadly we didn’t make it to this year’s edition of the wonderful Stockholm Furniture Fair but we did manage to keep an eye on what was happening via trusty design bible Disegno.

One stand in particular that caught our eye was that of Swedish brand Asplund, who launched a new collection designed around the theme of ‘Sense of Space’.

G-force cyclonic vacuum cleaner, (1986) by James Dyson

An icon of 20th century design, Dyson‘s cyclone vacuum cleaners are used in homes across the globe. Despite the brilliance of his idea, back in 1986, James Dyson was unable to find support for his invention in the UK. Instead his very first design for a bagless vacuum cleaner was launched onto the market in Japan, where its high-tech form, striking colors and groundbreaking cyclone feature made it a huge success. Exhibiting in the halls of Maison & Objet this year was Japan Handmade - a collaboration between six craft based companies from Kyoto and Danish design company OeO, evolving traditional crafts techniques to create new design objects. These beautiful copper and brass trays, containers and tea set by Japanese brand Kaikado were among the presented objects. Read the rest of this entry »
