Two of my favorite things collide in the book Guide to the Foreign Japanese Kitchen by Moé Takemura. An MA-Industrial Design graduate from Lund University in Sweden, Takemura created a cookbook that details how to create traditional Japanese dishes with locally sourced, Swedish ingredients. Delicious and beautiful, what more can you ask for?
This neat little set of desk objects by Nottingham Trent University graduate Max Phillips make clever use of switchable smart glass. A clock, a light and a container all look identical at first glance, however, when the objects are picked up, the panels of switchable glass turn from opaque to transparent, revealing the their individual functions. Une Architecture Végétarienne, an exhibit of Simón Vélez’s work at Domaine de Boisbuchet explores the sustainable properties, tremendous structural potential, and skillful craft of Vélez’s bamboo architecture. Found across the French design campus, Une Architecture Végétarienne accompanies visitors as they explore the property, encountering three of Simón Vélez’s pavilions previously constructed on the grounds, as well as photographs and videos of his work.
Tucked away in an area of protected woodland on the Pembrokeshire coast, the Melin Trewynt woollen mill is almost too idyllic to be real. Last month I had the pleasure of visiting and speaking to its owners Eifion and Amanda Griffiths who gave me a tour of their factory, mill, shop and studios.
