What better time for hip New York-based concept fashion store Opening Ceremony to open up a pop-up shop in London than last weekend? For their first retail store in Europe, Opening Ceremony chose to collaborate with British furniture designer Faye Toogood who created a number of bespoke pieces to complement the shop’s architecturally deconstructed interior.

The furniture designs are taken from Faye’s existing collection but materials and details have been given a sporting makeover through the use of chipped foam, leather and intricately woven thread.

Stacked industrial forms are displayed in the basement, while translucent, light pieces occupy the ground floor.

In addition, Faye’s creative studio, Studio Toogood, has created a series of rubberized, mechanical-looking constructions for the shop windows that play with the ideas of construction, transparency, texture and abstraction.

Opening Ceremony’s name was born out of the owners’ love of the Olympics - an event that is a creative fusion of sports, business, and global participation. They decided to take this concept and apply it to fashion - bringing together emerging American talent with both young and established designers and artists from abroad.

Each year Opening Ceremony celebrate a new country, capturing its commercial and cultural character through a consumer experience. The brand has also become known for its myriad collaborations with the likes of Chloë Sevigny, Spike Jonze, Pendleton, Levi’s, Timberland, Keds, Robert Clergerie, and more.

Opening Ceremony is located at 31-32 King Street, Convent Garden WC2 from July - October, 2012.
