After crossing Cunningham and Bieber off my list of must-see movies, I’ve added the gorgeous-looking Linotype: The Film, a feature-length documentary centered around the Linotype type casting machine. The machine that revolutionized printing was called the eighth wonder of the world by Thomas Edison, and the film tells the story how it impacted society.

Paper Shades

PADAUK (pterocarpus soyaxii) AFRICAN WOOD 35x45cm

Green is the colour that is typically associated with trees, however when Dutch design studio Raw Color and paper craftsman Leo Hoegen of Papierderij captured the colours of different tree species in paper form, the results ranged from salmon pink to warm yellow. Called Paper Shades, the project resulted in a beautiful set of hand made papers that each preserve the unique colour of the tree species they are made from. Trees featured include Padauk (above), Black walnut, Wenge, Chestnut and Spruce. Read the rest of this entry »

The Alba clock by Karim Charlebois-Zariffa combines new technology with traditional Balinese craft. The bright orange buttons sit in contrast to the hand carved wood, resulting in a strange but beautiful hybrid design. Read the rest of this entry »

Visiting Holly Berry

On Friday I visited the studio of London based weaver Holly Berry to collect her amazing Love Blankets which we are now stocking in our shop - yes, in case you hadn’t noticed we now have a shop. It’s all very exciting. With the sun streaming through the windows (a rare thing in London) and brightly coloured yarns stacked up around the loom, the studio looked too good not to take a few photographs of.
