Armed with a set of power tools and a truck, Brooklyn-based designer and maker Ariele Alasko of Brooklyn To West collects old, unwanted timber and takes it back to her studio where she skillfully crafts it into unique pieces of reclaimed furniture. Not only is her finished work amazing to look at but she also documents the making process beautifully with images that she posts to her blog and Instagram.
Born in California, Alasko moved to New York to study sculpture, but decided to channel her talents into building reclaimed furniture instead of art. Seven years later and she’s running a successful studio, is inundated with commissions and is selling her work through her online store.
The geometric designs are made up of contrasting cuts of inlaid timber arranged into striking chevron and stripe patterns. If you like this, you should also look out for the work of Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek.
