Did you know that there are 300 basic kinds of bread in Germany? Well it’s true. The Germans are the biggest consumers (per capita) of bread and the country prides itself on having the largest variety of breads worldwide. With this in mind, Nina Thöming, an industrial design student at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, has designed a range of traditional bread baking products inspired by German bread culture.
Called Brot & Tradition, Alles außer Altbacken (Bread and Tradition, Everything but Stale), the products are designed to help revive the ancient craft of bread baking at home through contemporary design. The range includes a variety of traditional ceramic bread tins that allow you to bake any traditional German bread, and recipe books that explore the different regional breads with stories and anecdotes. Each product is marked with a German postal code that denotes its regional origin.
The range received a special mention at Lucky Strike Junior Designer Award 2011.

impressing. i also like how she blurs the line between industrial and graphic design.
