Royal College of Art graduate and British designer Tori Murphy has launched her first ever independent textile collection, and it’s a beauty. The capsule range of 100% merino lambswool cushions and throws combine her passion for print and pattern with her desire to support manufacturing in the UK. Tori’s fabrics are woven in Lancashire, washed and finished in the Yorkshire Dales and made up into product in Nottinghamshire.

Everything from the mix of geometric patterns in navy and lilac colourways to the clever logo is perfectly executed.

We asked Tori some quick questions to find out a little more about her new venture:

When did you launch and what has the response been like?

I launched in June this year but it’s been something I’ve been building up to for the last 10 years. The response has been really encouraging so far. I have got some great national press coming out in the coming months, have got my first handful of apt stockists and am in conversations with some interesting retailers.

Why is it important to you to make your products in the UK?

For many reasons. I was born here, I’ve lived here, trained here, worked here, I now design from here and so it just seems logical to manufacture here. Why go to another country to do it when it can be done here? It’s maybe a little harder to find but it can definitely be done. It’s also important to me to be involved with the people who are actually making the product as they are instrumental in shaping the collection.

Where did you find inspiration for your designs?

By going back to basics and concentrating on beautiful materials and simple design.

What can we expect to see next from Tori Murphy?

All going well, a furniture collaboration and a steady growth of the range. (and hopefully a dog!)
