If it’s a room with a view that you want, then these cabin rooms at the Elqui Domos eco-resort in Chile should do nicely. Introduced as part of the resort’s recent overhaul by Santiago-based architect Rodrigo Duque Motta of RDM Arquitectura, the four cabins recreate the feel of lying beneath the stars.
“Places have different ingredients, skills and needs that create a recipe for vernacular design. This vernacular becomes a local identity.” This was the starting point for young designer Jeff Lambert’s Places project that has resulted in a smart collection of home accessories made from different types of brick. This intriguing set of photographs by UK photographer Brendan Austin explore the emerging urban landscapes across the United Arab Emirates. The works focus on the edges of the cities and the stark constructions that are rising up from the sand. Brendan says that the challenge was finding the right locations – ones which gave some distance with no obstacles in the way, which entailed stopping on motorway bridges, driving into empty construction areas and hanging from empty buildings.
