Last month saw the opening of new boutique hotel the Oyster Inn over on Waiheke Island in New Zealand. Having come across the project on British furniture brand Another Country‘s website, we did a little more investigation to see what it was all about. The Oyster Inn is the brainchild of Andrew Glenn and Jonathan Rutherfurd Best, ex-Londoners who settled on the island after careers in high-end marketing and event management.
The duo tasked Auckland-based designer Katie Lockhart with the interior design. Graphics and branding are by Special Group and furniture is either locally made from reclaimed wood or designed by Another Country. After discovering this, we were eager to see the results…and here they are.
Both the graphics and the interiors aim to convey an understated seaside luxury. The hotel includes three guest rooms, a private dining and meeting room, a fish and chip takeout bar, and a small store that sells chic beach accessories.
