This interestingly-textured chair was part of an exhibition we saw last month at London Design Festival by The American Hardwood Export Council, British furniture brand Benchmark and the Royal College of Art. To create the Well Proven chair, Marjan van Aubel and James Shaw have invented a new composite material that combines wood shavings with bio-resin.

Kit Miles Studio

Textile designer Kit Miles first caught our eye at the 2010 Works in Progress Show at the RCA, where he exhibited a rich collection of prints featuring geometric gradient patterns. One and a half years on, and Kit is launching his own collection of wallpapers and printed fabrics for furnishings and drapery.

RCA graduate Sissel Wathne‘s tactile tableware collection is inspired by Nordic traditions and everyday routines. Called Hygge - a Danish word that means comfortable, cosy, homely and friendly - the pieces are designed to embrace the hand. RCA Design Products student Jungin Lee has created an unconventional moulding process, which uses flexible plastic sheets as a mould to produce surreal fibreglass forms that look like frozen fabric.
