Exhibiting in the halls of Maison & Objet this year was Japan Handmade - a collaboration between six craft-based companies from Kyoto, and Danish design company OeO. This playful collection by French brand Colonel was brightening the isles of Maison & Objet in Paris last week with its cheery ice cream colours. Following on from their colourful series of ceramic resin Fuzz bowls launched in 2010, London based design duo Study O Portable have introduced a metal version of the same design called Metal Fuzz. Instead of the layers of ceramic resin that were used to build the original Fuzz bowls, thin layers of aluminum and brass are applied on to a spherical core, gradually forming a sphere with a textured bronze exterior. Continuing with this week’s (coincidental) theme of astronomy, these mirrors that resemble colourful planets caught my eye earlier this year at Maison&Objet in Paris. They are called Francis and are by French designer Constance Guisset for Parisian design brand Petite Friture. Soft washes of colour have been applied directly onto the edges of mirror’s surface to give the illusion of convexity. They are available as both wall mounted and smaller pocket versions.
