Hitch mirror
For their first solo presentation at ICFF, Lin Morris favorite Grain launched several additions to their in-house collection, as well as new styles, materials and colors of their bespoke Bound mirrors. New work included Hitch, a precision cut mirror threaded and hung from thick manila rope. The piece takes inspiration from the process of threading hang tags - which partners Chelsea Green and James Minola know well from packaging their Chi-Chi necklaces. The design revealed itself while Minola was experimenting with the materials used for their popular Hung mirror.

I spotted these Bound mirrors by Seattle based studio Grain at ICFF back in May. I love how they mix simplicity with intricate craft. Their bound twine edges remind me a lot of the multicoloured African jewelry made from vinyl disc beads. However, despite their African aesthetic, the mirrors are made a little closer to Grain’s home in the Pacific Northwest of the USA from renewable materials including bamboo, wool felt and hemp twine.
