Rollin Rollin stool
This stool concept by Japanese student Hiromi Manabe from Kobe Design University has me wishing I’d never thrown out my old knits and that I’d had a Rollin Rollin device to turn them into fluffy upholstery.
The worn wool from an old sweater is unravelled by simply winding the wooden handle built into the stools frame. As the wool winds around the frame it forms a comfortable upholstered seat. Rollin Rollin puts the unwanted material to good to use and also acts as an everyday reminder of the good times spent wearing your favourite sweater.
The project was exhibited at the SaloneSatellite during Milan Design Week as part of a wider project called Design Soil by Kobe Design University. The name refers to the University’s aproach to design education ‘we have attempted to create a space which lets young designers think and create things one by one, slowly yet steadily like plants growing in soil’
