Opened this month in New York is Riverpark Farm at Alexandria Center, an urban farm located at the end of East 29th Street in Kip’s Bay. The address isn’t what makes this farm — a collaboration with celebrity chef Tom Colicchio’s restaurant Riverpark — unique. The urban farm takes advantage of the stalled construction site of the Alexandria Center for Life Science, taking lemons and making them into some good ‘ole lemonade.

Once construction resumes at the center, the farm will have to move. This sense of impermanence explains the use of portable milk crates as planters: the farm is designed to be able to break down and move at any moment.

If urban farms make you hungry, not to worry. The Farm Table is an in-farm restaurant that allows visitors to reserve a spot to eat among the plants. General reservations along with private events are available.
