We are pleased to announce the arrival of a rather wonderful product in our shop. The aluminum Trekker Kelly Kettle is a highly efficient, beautifully designed, outdoor kettle that boils water within 3 to 5 minutes. Something of an Irish icon, it has been an essential piece of camping equipment for Irish fishermen for generations.
Based in the West of Ireland, Kelly Kettle is a small, family run business headed up by brothers Patrick & Seamus Kelly, who are proud to be the fourth generation of ‘Kelly’s’ to manufacture this iconic Irish design. They follow in the footsteps of their father Padraic, grandfather Jim, and great grandfather Patrick, who made the first version of the Kelly Kettle in the 1890s.
So how does it work? Once the kettle is filled with water, simply start a very small fire in the base compartment using any naturally occurring solid fuel, such as sticks, pine cones, dry camel dung etc., set the kettle on the base and drop additional fuel down the chimney. The large internal surface area of the chimney heats the water very quickly. When the water boils, hold the handle at an angle of 90° to the Kettle, lift the kettle clear of the base. To pour, lift it by the handle and tilt it using the cork chain. Watch the video below for a demonstration from Mr Patrick Kelly himself and then head to the shop to buy one of your own.
