On a recent trip to a European flooring show, luxury rug designer Jan Kath‘s stand was a breath of fresh air. Jan is probably one of the only rug designers who is as well known as the rugs that he designs. Last year he opened stores in New York and Berlin, and won the Wallpaper* Design Award for best rug at their prestigious annual awards show. We can safely say that he’s filling the ‘trendy rug designer’ gap in the market.

From Russia With Love is one of his latest collections; made in hand knotted Tibetan highland wool and silk, traditional Russian kilim designs that feature majestic florals are reworked with bold colourways and overlaid with paint splash patterns.

In addition he has created an accompanying brochure that features imagery of the new rug designs (quite convincingly) photoshopped on top of grainy, early 20th century portraits from Russia.
