These Rescued chairs by Nina Tolstrup have been upholstered in striking fabrics made in collaboration with British designer David David. On show in the Collection Room at contemporary design gallery 19 Greek Street, the chairs are part of a wider collection by Tolstrup called Re-Imagine, where existing, discarded furniture is recycled to make new sustainable pieces. The Oyster Inn_Waiheke_5

Last month saw the opening of new boutique hotel the Oyster Inn over on Waiheke Island in New Zealand. Having come across the project on British furniture brand Another Country‘s website, we did a little more investigation to see what it was all about. The Oyster Inn is the brainchild of Andrew Glenn and Jonathan Rutherfurd Best, ex-Londoners who settled on the island after careers in high-end marketing and event management.

The duo tasked Auckland-based designer Katie Lockhart with the interior design. Graphics and branding are by Special Group and furniture is either locally made from reclaimed wood or designed by Another Country. After discovering this, we were eager to see the results…and here they are.

You may ask, where has the Lin of Lin Morris been? Well, I’ve been busy planning an event in New York City that will auction off items from some of our favorite designers to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy. Among those favorites is UM Project, who stepped up to the challenge that we tasked them with: make new pieces out of debris and refuse from the storm. Some of the hardest hit areas were the homes of Brooklyn’s design best, and François Chambard, the lovable genius behind UM was insistent that a portion of his proceeds go directly to those designers who were devastated by the flood waters.
