The Alba clock by Karim Charlebois-Zariffa combines new technology with traditional Balinese craft. The bright orange buttons sit in contrast to the hand carved wood, resulting in a strange but beautiful hybrid design.
The clocks are a limited edition of just five for Canadian design brand Furni, who commissioned Karim to oversee the concept, design and production on a trip to Bali, Indonesia. Karim worked in collaboration with Balinese craftsman Wayan Suastika who specialises in creating carved doors for temples. Working on a much smaller scale, Wayan used 30 different carving knives to make the clocks over a three week period. See a video of them at work below. Impressive stuff.
