We Make Carpets

We Make Carpets are a Dutch design collective consisting of designers Marcia Nolte, Stijn van der Vleuten and Bob Waardenburg. The group have become renowned for their unusual and highly skilled installations that take everyday materials, including everything from cups of coffee to toy soldiers to pasta, and turn them into incredibly intricate patterns on various different scales. From a distance the assembled materials resemble traditional carpet designs, it’s only when you get up close that you see the unusual makeup of these beautiful designs.

Shown here are three carpets which the collective created for the Graphic Design Museum in Breda, in the Netherlands. Made of clothes pegs, the designs resemble a creative cross between a Mexican rug weave and a traditional Scottish Argyle knitting pattern.

Also check out their beautiful Paper Boat carpet here.

Photographs are by Boudewijn Bollmann.
