During a trip to Cape Town last year, design shop Dokter and Misses was one of my favourite South African design finds. They have branches in both Cape Town and Johannesburg that sell a selection of their own striking furniture, lighting and objects, as well as products by other local designers.

Known for their use of minimal geometric forms and mix of monochrome and primary colours, their latest creations explore more subtle, pastel shades and new materials.

The Pocket side Table, designed for fashion designer Suzaan Heyns‘ store in Melville Johannesburg, is made from leather and mild steel with a hand stitched storage pocket.

The Pipe Light collection was designed for the annual Southern Guild design showcase at the Johannesburg Art Fair in 2011. The collection consists of the Locomotive floor lamp and the Tug Boat table lamp. Both were playful experiments inspired by the stone age and the industrial revolution.

They remind me of the Chandlo dressing table by Doshi Levien that we posted about earlier this week. We are seeing more and more Memphis inspired designs at the moment and both of these pieces have a very post modern, sculptural look about them.
