Milan Design Week 2012

Lin Morris has been (at times aimlessly) roaming the streets of Milan this week, which explains why the Morris half of this team has been pulling a bit more weight the past few days. One thing we did share though, was excitement for these pieces by Taiwanese designer Jacky Wu. In the last aisle of Salone Satellite, Wu’s Cracked vases are cracked wood, marble and bright green lacquer.

Says Wu, “I found some timbers in a factory. These timbers cracked under the process of drying, so they were considered as useless materials. However, the crack is the best part of the timbers for m. It tells the story and shows the power of nature. So I lacquered the crack and machined it as a vase then lacquered the inside after. Thus, the crack became a visual point of the vase. This turned the defect into a theme of design.”
