Geode street art by
A Common Name

Los Angeles graphic designer and artist Julian Paige goes by the moniker A Common Name and installs these geodes as a part of her Street Art Project.The geodes have been placed around the LA area. “Rather than using traditional paint or wheat paste methods in a 2D platform, I’ve been using paper in 3D,” says the artist. “These sculptures come in all sizes and fit in the holes of buildings and pipes found while walking around. The finished shapes represent geodes, crystal, quartz, or any mineral formation that you would normally find in nature, now in our planned out cities.”

Metal Fuzz by
Study O Portable

Following on from their colourful series of ceramic resin Fuzz bowls launched in 2010, London based design duo Study O Portable have introduced a metal version of the same design called Metal Fuzz. Instead of the layers of ceramic resin that were used to build the original Fuzz bowls, thin layers of aluminum and brass are applied on to a spherical core, gradually forming a sphere with a textured bronze exterior. These drawings by Japanese New Media artist Macoto Murayama give us an insight into the staggeringly intricate architecture of the plant world. Murayama’s synthetic images combine the soft organic forms of flowers with the cold aesthetic of technical sketches. The landscapes are inspired by Celtic, Norwegian, Indian and Greek ancient stories and made out of personal photographs, images taken from old travel books and pictures of minerals.
