These animations by visual graphics artist Kevin Burg and photographer Jamie Beck take the basic concept of the animated gif and elevate it to the status of a sophisticated artwork. Called Cinemagraphs, the images are more than a photo, but not quite a video – cars pass by, eyes blink and leaves gently sway in the breeze.

Getting us in the mood for spring this week is a lovely series of images by Dutch design studio Raw Color that capture the fleeting beauty of springtime blossoms. The way that the specimens are photographed, suspended in mid air and set against colour blocked backdrops, makes them look like contemporary interpretations of scientific botanical illustrations.
